California at a Glance:
California is a large state that has always prided itself on academic excellence. CA schools and universities are always on the cutting edge of technology, social progress, and medical breakthroughs. Not surprisingly, many of today's elite (in business, medicine, politics, and law) graduated from colleges in California. Simply put, the Golden State has some of the best certification and training programs in the country.
CA schools are also famous for their natural beauty as well. Universities and colleges in California have access to beaches, mountains, beautiful forests, and deserts. Certification and training programs are set against a backdrop of picturesque landscapes and breathtaking vistas. And this is to say nothing of the amazing weather. Imagine wearing shorts almost all year round. Given the quality of life, the strength of its academics, and the access to nature, it is not at all surprising that so many people choose California when it comes to higher education.
California is a state located on the west coast of the United States. It is the most populous state in the U.S., and if it were an independent nation, it would have the sixth largest economy in the world. California is a dominant force in American culture as well as the nation's economy, contributing significant advances in technology and law, in addition to paying significantly more to the federal system than it receives in benefits.
Much of the state's industrial production depends on the processing of farm produce and upon such local resources as petroleum, natural gas, lumber, cement, and sand and gravel. The predominant industry, more than twice as large as the next, is agriculture, (including fruit, vegetables, dairy, and wine). This is followed by aerospace; entertainment, primarily television by dollar volume, although many movies are still made in California; and light manufacturing including computer hardware and software, and the mining of borax.
The state has strikingly beautiful natural features, including an expansive central valley, tall mountains, hot deserts, and hundreds of miles of scenic coastline. Probably the most physically and demographically diverse state in the nation, its official nickname is "The Golden State." This is often thought to be a reference to California's 1849 Gold Rush but is in fact reference to the native grasses that turn a golden color during the summer season.
